Élan marks a new partnership between designer Jordan Fleming and Australian design house New Volumes, reflecting the brand’s commitment to championing new voices through the interplay of design, materiality and storytelling.
“Élan Console and Mirrors by Jordan Fleming bring a new sensitivity to the New Volumes range – refined, tactile and deeply connected to material and form,” says Thomas Coward, creative director of New Volumes. “Jordan’s fresh ideas and strong sense of form have translated into beautifully resolved objects that balance sculptural beauty with everyday function, adding a distinct energy to the New Volumes collection,” he says.

Élan alludes to energy and style, a term that encapsulates the imagination and spirit of this exciting new collection of pieces. “Élan captures movement suspended in stillness. Each piece appears to have been shaped by unseen forces, its contours evolving and unfolding through space,” says Jordan.
The collection comprises the sculptural Élan Console, a piece of monumental lightness that appears to twist and undulate in balanced asymmetry. At the heart of the console is an open portal which invites the user to personalise their console with decorative or functional objects. Paired with the console are the Élan Mirrors in Midi and Mini sizes. The Mirrors’ elegant restraint and quiet personality ensures they will be a versatile and evocative addition to any space.
Formed from Italian terracotta, Élan reveals the natural strength, warmth and quiet fluidity of this ancient material – sourced from the clay-rich hills of Tuscany and shaped by the hands of master artisans.
“In making the Élan Console and Élan Mirrors I explored the physicality of working with terracotta clay. The process of forming and refining the console and mirrors was about respecting the material’s strengths as well as its unpredictability. Each object carries the memory of touch – of moulding, slow drying and firing – resulting in organic textures and finishes that can never be exactly repeated,” says Jordan.
Jordan was the recipient of the 2024 Product Designer award. Jordan says winning the category award has been an affirming experience – both personally and professionally. “I’ve long admired New Volumes, so winning the prize and getting to work with them was a huge goal of mine. It really opened the door for me and showed me how to work with other designers and brands in a deeper, more rigorous way… It’s really filled me with a sense of confidence.”
